On July 19, 2020, David Connon will present a program about the Iowan’s who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Mr. Connon stumbled on to Confederates from Iowa while researching the Iowa Underground Railroad. He will read stories from his book Iowa Confederates in the Civil War. These stories will help flesh out most common motives to serve in the Confederacy and also shed light on the emotional and political pressures in wartime Iowa. The program will begin at 2 p.m. on south lawn. Please bring lawn chairs and join us for an informative program sponsored by Humanities Iowa and Friends of Hitchcock House. The program is free and refreshments will be served. The Hitchcock House was designated a National Historic Landmark making it one of about 2,500 historic properties in the United States with that designation.
